Youth ProgramsYouth ConferencesSince 1992, the Foundation has worked with teachers in Alberta to conduct conferences for secondary school students on the significance of Gandhian principles to their lives. Past conferences have addressed such issues as the environment, Canadian unity, prejudice and discrimination, violence in the schools, and service to the community. Youth CampBased on the overwhelming response to the Youth Conference, the Foundation invited students to help organize and allow students to explore and discuss the relevance of Gandhi's message for their own lives and communities. Essay Writing ContestThe Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, together with the Edmonton Council on India, invited high school students to participate in an essay writing competition December 15, 2002. The contest was held at the India Center in Edmonton (Alberta, Canada), and students were provided two hours to write an essay on the topic "How Might We Teach Culture of Peace in Our Schools in Light of Mahatma Gandhi's Ideals of Non-Violence?"
